Maharashtra CET Exam 2017: Number of applicants increased to 1.20 lakh

The Government of Maharashtra, State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra will be conducting the Common Entrance Test (CET) for admissions to Engineering and Pharmacy undergraduate courses for the academic year 2017-2018.

The exam is scheduled to be held on May 11.

According to reports, there is a jump of 45 per cent in the number of students for engineering programme. As compared to last year, more than 1.20 lakh candidates have registered for the exam.

Reason for increasing number of applicants:

  • Officials from the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) are assuming NEET and JEE could be the reasons for the increasing number of applicants
  • “JEE has negative marking and the syllabus becomes very different, so it is possible that many students chose to appear for CET over the other national level entrance exam,” said Dayanand Meshram, joint director, DTE
  • He further added, “DTE had recently received over 94,000 applications for just about 32,000 seats in management institutes. This shows that demand for professional stories is high,” according to a report in HT.

The candidates would be able to download the admit cards from From April 24 to May 11.
