Customers have taken to Twitter to complain the issues that stopped people logging into the site yesterday have returned.

“It is worrying that you think the problem with your on-line services is resolved. It clearly is not!,” one user complained.

“I cannot get to the login page, and according to the internet forums neither can most people. This is really appalling!”

The official Natwest support account has told customers that it “did have issues yesterday but this has been resolved.”

“Can I ask you to try clear the temporary internet files and cookies on your browser and let me know how you get on please?,” it adds.

Natwest has updated its service status page to reflect the issues on the online banking.

“Some customers may experience issues accessing our Online Banking service,” the notice now reads.

“If you need to complete a transaction you can continue to do this using our Mobile Banking, Telephone Banking or alternatively you can visit one of our Branches or ATMs.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause, we are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”

Natwest’s service status webpage has not updated to reflect the difficulties experienced by hundreds of customers attempting to access their online banking page.

Meanwhile, the official Twitter help account (@NatWest_Help) has described the issue as “an intermittent issue”.

“We are aware it’s currently running slowly on some browsers, and we’re investigating this,” it adds.

“Could you please try a different browsers. Or our App is working ok if you have that. Sorry for any inconvenience.”

Natwest has also reminded some customers that it is possible to check their balance and make a payment over the phone on 0345 7888444, then selecting option 1.

The first reports of an outage to the online banking portal first appeared online at around 10:00am GMT.

According to DownDetector’s crowd-sourced data, the outage appears to hit users across the United Kingdom, with London and Manchester the most affected.
