Samsung Galaxy S8 Active for AT&T goes on pre-order tomorrow

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is secure in its ruggedness and it doesn’t need loud announcements. So it’s a bit low-key, but AT&T sent out press releases saying that you will be able to pre-order one starting tomorrow, Augusts 8.

The Active is built out of military-grade materials and is shock, shatter, water and dust resistant. Its metal frame has a bumper that will prevent major damage from drops of up to 5 feet (on a level surface). The back cover offers a secure grip.

The screen over the 5.8” Super AMOLED display is shatter resistant. Yes, the S8 Active is based on the smaller of the two S8 models. Still, its 4,000mAh battery is anything but small and will offer impressive battery life (the base S8 has only 3,000mAh but managed an 84h endurance rating on our test).

Bixby is here and it has its hiking boots on. You can ask it to activate the stopwatch or flashlight, show the compass or barometer – helpful tools if you want to navigate the old-fashioned way.

The Galaxy S8 Active has the familiar 12MP Dual Pixel camera on the back. Its f/1.7 aperture is suitable for low-light shot, while the lightning-fast autofocus is great for those “blink and you miss it” moments.

You have a choice between Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold for the exterior.

AT&T will have a limited time exclusivity on the rugged phone. Pre-orders start tomorrow. You can get it for free on AT&T Next (30-months, $28.34/mo). You can also snag a Gear S2 for $1 or a Gear S3 for $50 with a 2-year plan.

Additional offers include up to $200 in credits if you turn in an eligible smartphone and $500 towards a Samsung TV if you buy the S8 Active (or other S8 model) on AT&T Next and add DirectTV. Check the source link for more details on these offers.

Starting tomorrow, pre-orders will be available online here – att.com/galaxys8active – as well as over 5,000 brick and mortar stores. Sales start August 11.
